Bowdoin Holiday Concerts Feature Special Guests

The Bowdoin College Concert Band and Bowdoin Chorus held their holiday performances this weekend.

This year, the Concert Band invited alumni and administers to join its performance. Highlighting the program was President Clayton Rose, who performed the narration on A Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copland.

The concert also featured two premiere performances: Over Here, Over There! by T. Douglas Stenberg ’56, and Love One Another by Delmar Small, who is the music department's concert, budget & equipment manager. Violinist Trevor Peterson ’02 also made a solo appearance, playing John William’s Theme from Schindler’s List.

The Bowdoin Chorus, conducted by Anthony Antolini ’63, collaborated on a holiday performance with violinist Sage Kosky, double bassist Alyson Ciechomski and pianist Sean Flemingz. The show included toe-tapping rhythms from holiday music in the jubilant works of Praetorius, Schütz, Joubert, Distler, Biebl and Scott Joplin, as well as vocal jazz arrangements of Christmas favorites. Other featured works on the program were Heinz Werner Zimmermann's Weihnacht Motetten, and a jazz choir piece by Bill Cunliffe.
