Bowdoin Partners with HBX to Offer Students Core Business Skills

Bowdoin College is partnering with HBX, Harvard Business School’s online digital education initiative, to offer Bowdoin students the opportunity to participate in the Credential of Readiness (CORe) program.

Designed by Harvard Business School faculty, CORe is an interactive 11-week online program focusing on the fundamentals of business; it comprises three non-Bowdoin credit courses: Business Analytics, Economics for Managers and Financial Accounting.

“The HBX CORe program has been designed to teach the fundamentals of business to college students as an additional way to prepare them for the workplace,” said Harvard Business School professor Bharat Anand, faculty chair of HBX.

“Through this agreement, we are delighted to bring the CORe program to Bowdoin and look forward to deepening our engagement with this community.”

The curriculum, taught using a combination of videos and interactive programs, is aimed at liberal arts undergraduates. As part of the partnership, HBX facilitates financial aid for those who qualify.

“HBX CORe is an exciting and affordable option for students interested in learning the core skills associated with the fundamentals of business,” said Tim Foster, Bowdoin’s Dean of Student Affairs.

“The expense of similar courses has made them inaccessible to many, but HBX’s provision of need-based financial aid now changes that. This program allows students to bolster skills that will serve them well in their work lives beyond Bowdoin, whether it’s in the private, nonprofit or public sector.”

Bowdoin joins Amherst, Hamilton, Wellesley and Williams, among other colleges, as partners in this venture with Harvard Business School.
