Daniel Isaacs ’27: Sports Medicine Intern at University of the West Indies Sports Medicine Clinic
By Daniel Isaacs ’27
The UWI Sports Medicine Clinic treats injured athletes, conducts pre-participation screening for teams as well as fitness testing. It works with elite track and field athletes, regional cricketers, national netballers, athletes at all levels, as well as recreational athletes.
- I designed individualized training programs for diverse clients, including older adults, athletes, and office workers seeking weight loss. I also assisted with physiotherapy sessions for athletes and patients recovering from knee, shoulder, and ankle injuries. I also conducted fitness testing and pre-participation assessments for teams such as the national cricket team and the Special Olympics team.
- Through this experience, I discovered that while I enjoy personal training, I view it more as a hobby than a career path. This realization brought me full circle back to my original aspiration in Sports Medicine, where I can address injuries and provide care that is essential and universally valued. I gained new skills, including aquatic therapy, ECG administration, and ankle taping methods, which expanded my practical knowledge. My favorite moments were building friendships, improving my communication skills, and seeing the positive impact I had on clients' health, mindset, and overall well-being.
