Gislaine Umuhoza ’27: Investment and Operations Intern at Fortis Green Renewables

Throughout this summer, I interned at Fortis Green Renewables, an investment manager providing flexible capital to small-scale renewable energy assets in Sub-Saharan Africa.

During my internship, I contributed to several projects, including country analyses, where I conducted due diligence on potential investment countries to evaluate their attractiveness. I also prepared quarterly portfolio reports and updates, which strengthened my ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights. I also prepared a playbook of AI tools to be used at the company. 

This experience introduced me to the renewable energy industry in Sub-Saharan Africa, which I find interesting. Now, as my career aspiration, I am leaning towards the investment side of finance. Along the way, I developed and refined key skills such as research and analysis, effective presentation, and advanced Excel.

A highlight of my internship was visiting hydropower plants in Rwanda to learn more about the mechanical part of the company's portfolio.
