Andrew Rudalevige Join Bowdoin government professor Andrew Rudalevige for brief remarks and an open Q&A on the exercise of presidential power: how the framers of the Constitution designed the office of the presidency, and how it has developed across American history to the present day. From immigration to war powers, budgeting to executive orders, how have contemporary presidents expanded their authority? And will Congress or the courts – or the American people – push back?

Rudalevige is Thomas Brackett Reed Professor of Government at Bowdoin, and a non-resident fellow at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center; his books include By Executive Order and The New Imperial Presidency. He is an honorary professor affiliated with the Centre on US Politics at University College London and in 2023-24 was a visiting professor at LSE.
