Mike Bartini brings more than 30 years of financial aid experience to Bowdoin, including eight years as director of financial aid at Brown University. For the past five years, Mr. Bartini has held a variety of leadership roles at The College Board. He previously served as director of financial aid at Washington and Lee University, where he also oversaw all federal programs for the School of Law. Mr. Bartini is a graduate of Westfield State College in Westfield, Mass., where he earned a degree in economics.

Steve Joyce has worked in the financial aid office at Bowdoin College since 1991 and served as Director of Student Aid from 1999 through 2011. He is experienced in Federal and Institutional Need Analysis, federal and state regulations, and the Federal Work Study Program. He regularly counsels Bowdoin students and parents about financial aid policies and paying college costs.
Before Bowdoin, Steve was the high school principal and director of college counseling at Head-Royce School in Oakland, CA, and previously was the college counselor and a biology teacher at the Rivers School in Weston, MA. He has an M.Ed in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University.
Steve has recently been a member of the Financial Aid Advisory Committee of the New England Region of the College Board and is a past-President and active member of the Maine Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. His volunteer activities include: speaking at high school financial aid nights, presenting on the FAFSA application process, offering tax preparation at the Midcoast Maine CA$H Coalition and providing financial aid counsel for students and parents at local Maine high schools.

Andrea Cross is a seasoned financial aid professional who spent her entire career in higher education. Before her arrival at Bowdoin, she served as the Associate Dean for Student Aid at Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) for many years and Bay Path College and Springfield College prior to that. Over her career she has also been active in the greater financial aid community through various organizations including the Maine Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA), the Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA), and the New England Region of the College Board. Currently she participates in the MASFAA School Support Initiative which offers FAFSA and financial aid counseling to Maine high schools.
Andrea earned her B.Ed. from McGill University and an M.S. and C.A.S. from Springfield College.

Sarah oversees the on-campus student employment program, which employs over a thousand students and incorporates more than two-hundred supervisors. She also advises students and their families regarding their financial aid packages and options.
Sarah has pursued a career as an advisor and educator at four different undergraduate institutions: The University of Maine, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Purdue University, and Bowdoin College. Most recently, she served as career coach to Bowdoin students interested in the science, health, and environmental fields. She holds a Master’s degree in Communication and Performance Studies.
In addition to working with college students, Sarah’s favorite activities include sea kayaking, hiking, yoga, reading, and running on the Portland Trails.

Alyson provides administrative support for Office of Student Aid and Student Employment. Prior to joining the Student Aid office Alyson worked at Bowdoin’s HL Library, Student Fellowships and the Registrar’s office.
Alyson came to Maine in 2008 after 25 years as the Executive Director of various rowing programs, most recently Community Rowing in Boston. Her interests include sea kayaking, rowing, snowboarding and enjoying the outdoors with her husband and dogs.
