June 2009
Hello Class of 2013,
Happy Summer!
This website is designed to introduce you to some of the resources that will be available to you in the fall and provide you with some information about what to expect during Orientation and your first semester at Bowdoin. Feel free to review the material in the links to your left and keep in mind that Pre-Orientation arrival is August 25 and the first day of Orientation is August 29.
You should have received a packet in the mail in May that asked for many forms to be filled out. You also should have received a packet of material in mid-July, which included information about housing assignments, roommates, pre-o trip information, as well as important material on placement exams. Please make sure you have taken and returned all exams you think you should take before you come to campus in August. If you have not already done so, please also be reading our first-year book, Cormac McCarthy’s The Road.
You can also check out first-year course offerings for the Fall 2009 semester by clicking here. Keep in mind that first year students will register for their classes during Orientation.
Lastly, I encourage you to view the slideshow below. We asked the class of 2012 to share some words of wisdom to you, the incoming class. They have some sage advice that I hope you will take to heart.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office. Our first year team consists of Assistant Dean of First-Years, MaryBeth Mathews, Office Manager, Beth Levesque, Student Intern, Kate Emerson ‘10 and myself.
We look forward to seeing you in August.
Best,
Janet Lohmann
Dean of First-Year Students
