Your academic experience at Bowdoin will be an exciting and challenging endeavor. You have the opportunity to take courses in a wide range of disciplines and interdisciplinary areas. As you begin to look over the course catalogue, I encourage you to choose topics that will engage your interests and curiosity. Your educational experience will be your responsibility. Your academic advisor, faculty and your deans, will be there to support you, but it is ultimately up to you to navigate your courses and choose your major. As a liberal arts college, we encourage you to explore the curriculum your first year. Bowdoin students declare a major in their fourth semester at the College, and thus, there is ample opportunity to take a variety of courses before focusing on a particular major. Take time to look over the Course Catalogue, the courses available to first-years for the fall, as well as the Guide to Your Bowdoin Education. All of these resources will help to explain the multiplicity of course offerings, the distribution requirements, your role in designing your academic program, as well as additional important information to prepare you as you embark on your academic journey at Bowdoin.
