HR Gets Ready to Launch! Again!

Bowdoin's HR team has been incredibly busy behind the scenes working on fabulous new functionality designed to make starting a new job at Bowdoin a smooth and largely-online process for staff and students alike. Meredith Haralson and Cindy Bessmer, with support from Kerry McQuaid, have been working nearly around-the-clock to update our onboarding, I-9, and student hiring processes. Our Alchemy partners have worked behind the scenes to make changes to existing processes and create new processes, while our Bowdoin team tests every possible scenario repeatedly, from one end of a hiring process to the next. These test results are reported back to the Alchemy team, who adjust the work they've done. Then the Bowdoin team goes back to test again!

One very exciting part of this project is what Workday refers to as "External Student." Said plainly, external student is the name of an integration that pulls student information from an external source (in Bowdoin's case, Banner) and pushes it into Workday. This allows us to create worker records on these students so they can become student employees. Why is this such a big deal, you may ask? Because up until this moment, every single student employee had to be entered using a few different manual processes. This will also help streamline hiring from a manager's point of view. 

The team is in the final push with Alchemy to get this new functionality launched in the coming days, which means more round-the-clock testing will be happening into July. Stay tuned for more updates!
