The Kibbe Science Lecture Presents Dr. Tessa Hill: "At Every Depth: Our Growing Knowledge of the Changing Ocean"

The world’s oceans are changing at a drastic pace. Beneath the waves and along the coasts, climate change and environmental degradation have spurred the most radical transformations in human history. In response, the people who know the ocean most intimately are taking action for the sake of our shared future. Tessa Hill, an oceanographer and climate scientist at University of California–Davis, will explore stories from the changing ocean, and talk about what we can do to protect the coastlines we adore.

Dr. Tessa Hill is a professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences and the associate vice provost in public scholarship and engagement at UC–Davis. She is the coauthor, with Eric Simons, of the book At Every Depth, about how communities of people are coming together to protect the ocean environment through a time period of great change.

Dr. Hill, who earned a BS in marine science from Eckerd College (1999) and a PhD in marine science from UC–Santa Barbara (2004), is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the California Academy of Sciences and was the recipient of the American Geophysical Union Rachel Carson Lecture in 2023. Hill’s work has been featured in a variety of media outlets, including NPR, The New York Times, Al Jazeera America, and Science Friday.
