José L. Ribas

José Ribas, Technician/Preparator at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, is a native New Yorker and a member of the class of 1976 at Bowdoin. While in college, Ribas worked as an intern at the BCMA under the direction of David Becker. His study of art continued during a junior year abroad spent in Spain at the Prado. After graduation from Bowdoin, Ribas received a Ford Foundation Fellowship to continue work at the museum (1976 -1977). Following further travel to Europe, Ribas returned to Bowdoin in 1981. His training has included study of storage and packing techniques at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and paper conservation strategies at the Williamstown Conservation Center. In 2000, Ribas participated in the Brunswick-Trinidad Sister City exchange delivering medical supplies and facilitating cultural exchange with Cuba.
