Family Weekend (October 19, 2021)

To the campus community,

On Friday, October 22, 2021, as part of Family Weekend, we will have two exciting programs that I cordially invite you to attend.

The President’s Summer Research Symposium, which highlights research projects conducted by our students during the summer of 2021 and provides an opportunity for students to present their summer research during a poster session, begins at 1:45 p.m. on the main quad. Families, faculty, staff, and fellow students are invited to attend this celebration of student research and creativity and engage in conversation with the student presenters about their work.

The annual Sarah and James Bowdoin Day Ceremony will begin at 4:00 p.m. in Pickard Theater, Memorial Hall. Our keynote speaker will be Michael Danahy, senior lecturer in chemistry. The title of his talk is “Obey the Law and Enjoy the Entropy.” Our student speaker will be Julia Jennings ’23, and the title of her talk is “Bowdoin in the First-Person Plural.”

I invite you to join in these opportunities to celebrate students who have excelled in the classroom. Many of you have been important participants in their success, and your presence is meaningful. I hope that those with academic regalia will march in the academic procession for the Sarah and James Bowdoin Day Ceremony; we will assemble in regalia at 3:40 p.m. in front of Searles Science Building.

I hope to see you at these events.
