Message to the Campus Community — May 3, 2016

To the Bowdoin campus community,

I am writing with an update on the search for a permanent dean for academic affairs. As you know, Professor Jennifer Scanlon is serving as interim dean for academic affairs through June 2017. As announced in April 2015 when Jen was appointed, the College will conduct a national search for a permanent dean during the 2016-17 academic year.

A thirteen-member search committee from across the Bowdoin campus community has been established. Members of the committee are:

Jeffrey Cosgrove-Cook, science library assistant

Deborah DeGraff, professor of economics

Vladimir Douhovnikoff, assistant professor of biology

Martina Duncan, registrar

Guy Mark Foster, associate professor of English

Timothy Foster, dean of student affairs

Ryan Herman ’17

Belinda Kong, associate professor of Asian studies and English

Adam Levy, professor of mathematics and chair of the mathematics department

Mitsuki Nishimoto ’17

Elizabeth Orlic, vice president and special assistant to the president & secretary of the College

Hannah Reese, assistant professor of psychology

Clayton Rose, president (chair)

The search firm of Isaacson, Miller has been selected to work with the College.

The consultants from Isaacson, Miller will be on campus on Wednesday, May 25, and Thursday, May 26, 2016, to gather insights and information from members of our community regarding the search. Details on these meetings will be available soon. I invite your thoughts and comments which can be sent to the committee at deansearch@bowdoin.edu.
