Our New SVP and Chief Investment Officer

Dear faculty and staff colleagues,

I am writing with the exciting news that Boris Raykin has been appointed senior vice president and chief investment officer, effective immediately.

Boris’s appointment follows a comprehensive national search that attracted a strong pool of candidates. His investment expertise, institutional knowledge, and commitment to Bowdoin’s mission make him an excellent choice to succeed Niles Bryant in this role.

Boris will oversee Bowdoin’s endowment, working closely with the Investment Committee and our investment office staff, who are primarily responsible for screening and selecting the external managers that make investments on behalf of the College. As you know, the endowment plays an essential role in sustaining Bowdoin’s mission. It provides over half of the operating budget, supporting our academic programs and the broader student experience with the largest portion of the endowment permanently restricted for financial aid.

Boris came to Bowdoin in 2021 as director in our investments office in New York City with expertise in marketable securities, including absolute return, and public equities strategies. He had previously led the public markets program at Willett Advisors, investing on behalf of the Bloomberg Philanthropies. Prior to Willett, Boris held investment leadership roles at Granite Associates and Citi Private Bank.

Boris has been a generous mentor to our students. He teaches financial literacy sessions at Sophomore Bootcamp, advises students interested in finance careers, and has helped to organize several InvesTrek career trips to New York. Boris earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees, both in electrical engineering and computer science, at MIT. He holds the chartered financial analyst (CFA) designation and serves on the Investment Committee of The Pingry School in Basking Ridge, NJ. Boris and his wife, Natalie, are the parents of two college students.

I am grateful to Boris for his willingness to take on this important role and to the search committee for their thoughtful work. Please join me in congratulating Boris on his appointment.

All my best,
Safa
