Campus Audiences Treated to Guys and Dolls
By Tom PorterOne of the all-time classics from the “Golden Age” of Broadway shows recently played on campus. A story of gangsters and gamblers, Guys and Dolls has been described as the show that “defines Broadway dazzle,” and this production gave it a modern twist.
Directed by Visiting Assistant Professor of Theater Jessica Pearson-Bleyer, Guys and Dolls ran for three days in early November to a packed house at Pickard Theater, where the theater and dance department reimagined the mid-twentieth-century musical in a twenty-first-century setting.
Set in the Manhattan underworld and inspired by the short stories of Damon Runyon from the 1920s and 1930s, Guys and Dolls has been called the “perfect musical comedy.”
