Co-editors-in-chief Sam Pausman ’24 and Juliana Vandermark ’24 said they were surprised when the Orient’s name was called at the awards presentation and that they felt proud of work done by their team.

“Our journalism is motivated by the needs and stories of the community we serve, and it is nice to see that this translates to broader journalism accolades,” they said.

“This award truly belongs to the entire staff of Volume 152 and Halina Bennet ’23 and Seamus Frey ’23, the editors-in-chief of the Orient last year. The paper the two of them cultivated was strong week in and week out, and we are so happy that it was able to be recognized as such.”

The impressive haul also includes many awards received by individual student reporters. The list of awards received is as follows:

  • 2023 New England College Newspaper of the Year
