In their Final Days as Bowdoin Students, Seniors Live it Up

By Bowdoin
After they've turned in their papers and completed their exams, seniors get to enjoy a week between the end of finals and graduation day—a span of days Bowdoin calls Senior Week.

Student Activities planned the schedule of almost nonstop festivities and feasts from May 22 to May 28, to encourage seniors to enjoy their last week before officially becoming alumni.

On Sunday, kick-off day, the Class of 2022 was invited to a campus cookout and, later, to a reception at Maine Beer Company in Freeport, complete with games of darts and cornhole and access to their famous tasting room. Bowdoin provided transportation.

On Monday, seniors were shuttled to Popham Beach. After spending the day in the sun, the students danced at the Polar Prom from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. in Smith Union, culminating in the selection of a prom king and prom queen. (This dance is nicknamed "First Chance Dance" for any seniors who might want a parting shot at finding love at Bowdoin.)

On Tuesday, Ladd House was the site of a Tropical Paradise Patio Party featuring a dunk tank and a waterslide. After drying off and dressing up, seniors gathered on the Museum Steps for an official class photo—recreating the one taken of the Class of 2022 when they were incoming first-years in 2018. From there, they made their way to Thorne for the Senior Class Gift Campaign Thorndike Toast, a reception, and dinner. The day ended out on the town with a Brunswick Pubs Minicrawl, with stops at Bolos, Joshua’s Tavern, and Portland Pie.

On Wednesday, many members of the faculty joined the graduating class at the Coe Quad tent for Pints with Professors, one of the most beloved Senior Week traditions. A first-year floor reunion followed, where floormates gathered to reflect on their four years. The day finished with Senior Olympics in Farley Field House, with teams made up of first-year brick cohorts.

On Thursday, things started to get a bit more serious. Preparation for the coming graduation ceremony got underway and all seniors were asked to participate in a Commencement rehearsal. The practice run was followed by a celebratory Senior Champagne Brunch, and the day closed out at a Portland Pub Crawl, with transportation provided by the College.

Friday included the Baccalaureate ceremony, followed by the annual Down East Lobster Bake, and—as the time to kindle that Bowdoin romance quickly dwindled—the "Last Chance Dance."

Saturday, May 28, is graduation day—the joyful culmination of the week and of four years of college life!
