Days of Music

By Bowdoin
The end of semester brings exams and final papers, yes, but it also brings a cascade of student art and music. Musicians, dancers, and a cappella groups perform works they've been practicing for weeks; comedians stage antics to get people to laugh; and artists fill the halls and studios of the Edwards Center with their projects.
Jazz Night brochure

In a roundup of the musical events on campus, we counted nine student concerts performed over seven days, not including individual recitals.

Jazz Night 1 started things off on Friday evening, Dec. 3, playing songs by Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, and Tyler, the Creator, among others.

Jazz Night 2, on Saturday, Dec. 4, featured songs by Bobby Hebb, Dorothy Ashby, and Ronnie Foster.

The Bowdoin Chamber Choir held a concert Saturday, as well. Directed by Jeffrey Christmas, the choir performed "Ave Maria" by R. Nathaniel Dett, "Cantique de Jean Racine" by Gabriel Fauré, and the traditional tune "Wayfaring Stranger" by an unknown artist.

The Concert Band, directed by John P. Morneau, put on a concert called Lest We Forget: Music Addressing Racism, on Sunday, Dec. 5, in Kanbar Auditorium's Studzinkski Recital Hall. Songs included "The Nine" by Randall Standridge, "Overcome" by Bill Locklear, and "To set the darkness echoing," by Dana Wilson ’68.

Students in Chamberfest I played Monday, Dec. 6, while those in Chamberfest II performed Friday, Dec. 10.
