Tyler Micoleau ’91 said his Bowdoin education was crucial in preparing him for his career as a theatrical lighting designer. Micoleau, who won a prestigious Tony award this year for his work on the hit Broadway musical The Band’s Visit, told Broadway World‘s Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold he came to Bowdoin because he wanted a liberal arts education.
“I like to say that Bowdoin College is about learning how to learn, and you can apply that skill to so many things,” said Micoleau. “I studied art history, music, English literature, in addition to my theatre classes,” he continued. “It is all those other disciplines which make us interesting as artists. They give us a context and framework to create.” Micoleau graduated from Bowdoin with a self-designed major in theater with an emphasis on stage design.
