With a variety of projects in development this summer, we are so appreciative of the summer interns’ invaluable contributions.
The five Curatorial and Education Assistants this summer are Allegra Bersani ’20, Miles Brautigam ’19, Havana Caso-Dosembet ’20, Ellie Sapat ’20, and Benjamin Wu ’18. In addition to the individual curatorial projects listed below, the Curatorial and Education Assistants will be responsible for leading daily tours of the Museum, creating original educational resources for Winslow Homer and the Camera: Photography and the Art of Painting, and developing and leading family programming throughout the summer.
Allegra Bersani is an Art History major and a Government and Legal Studies minor from Hong Kong, China. She is working with Joachim Homann this summer on preparations for the 2019 summer exhibition, Art Purposes, as well as the corresponding collections catalogue, which celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Walker Art Building.
Miles Brautigam is a Government and Legal Studies major from Putney, Vermont, who is conducting research on the BCMA’s recent acquisitions of over 300 works from the estate of Marion Boulton “Kippy” Stroud, and approximately 1,200 works in an archive of Walter Pach from the gallerist and scholar Francis M. Naumann and his wife Marie T. Keller. Miles will research these large modern and contemporary collections under the supervision of Anne Goodyear.
Havana Caso-Dosembet is an Environmental and Earth and Oceanographic Studies major and Hispanic Studies minor from New York City. She is assisting Honor Wilkinson in the preparations for the exhibiiton Material Resources: Intersections of Art and the Environment, set to open on December 6, 2018. She is also assisting Suzanne Bergeron in the Museum’s communications department.
Ellie Sapat is an English major and an Anthropology minor from Falmouth, Maine. She is co-curating the upcoming permanent collection exhibition Portraits of Women with Frank Goodyear, which will open on October 11, 2018.
Benjamin Wu is a History major and Economics minor from Washington, D.C., who will be working with Anne Goodyear on collections research and the installation of A Handheld History: Five Centuries of Medals from the Molinari Collection at Bowdoin College, which is an exhibition he co-curated with Amber Orosco ’19 and Stephen Pastoriza ’19. He will be joining the team in mid-July.
Digitization Assistant, Sophie Washington ’19, is a self-designed Digital Media and Cinema Studies major from Cleveland, Ohio. She is assisting Anne Goodyear this summer on digital projects at the BCMA, including preparations for the Linn Myers sight-specific drawing Let’s Get Lost: Linn Meyers, and corresponding interactive sound installation, Listening Glass: Gesture as Music, which Myers co-created with Rebecca Bray, James Bigbee Garver, and Josh Knowles. The installation will open on September 27, 2018.
Juliette Dankens ’18 and Alexander Dobbin ’18 are Curatorial Interns this summer, joining the team in late July. Juliette, from Belmont, Massachusetts, graduated this May with a double major in Visual Art and Mathematics, and a minor in Economics. Alex, from Stockholm, Sweden, also graduated in May with a major in Economics and a minor in Visual Arts. Juliette and Alex designed an Independent Study Course with Professor Jill Pearlman on the Staatliches Bauhaus during the 2018 spring semester. She and Alex Dobbin will be working with Joachim Homann on the curatorial development of the ensuing Bauhaus exhibition, scheduled to open on February 27, 2019. Both students are interested in pursuing architecture professionally after their internship at the Museum this summer.
Amber Orosco ’19, an Art History and Visual Art double major and a Chemistry minor from Tampa, Florida, is joining the Museum as a Curatorial Intern at the end of June. She will be working under the supervision of Anne Goodyear, preparing the installation of A Handheld History: Five Centuries of Medals from the Molinari Collection at Bowdoin College, the exhibition she co-curated with Ben Wu ’18 and Stephen Pastoriza ’19.
This summer’s Shop Assistants are Sylvia Bosco ’21 and Eleanor McCole ’20. Sylvia is a rising sophomore from Louisville, Kentucky who is still exploring her academic interests before declaring her major next spring. Eleanor McCole is an Art History major and a French minor from Eugene, Oregon. Both of the Shop Assistants will be working with Liza Nelson in visitor services at the gift shop this summer.
Whether it is providing visitor services, conducting curatorial research, leading educational programming, or developing innovative technology at the Museum, the Museum is grateful for the students’ enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication, and we look forward to reporting on their discoveries and achievements at the conclusion of the summer
