The competition is comprised of a speech contest and an essay contest. The college competition includes beginner, intermediate, and advanced divisions for the essay contest and intermediate and advanced divisions for the speech contest.
This is the second time that Bowdoin has had four students win awards in the essay division and the first time that they swept all of the awards in the advanced division of the essay contest. Also, for the first time, a first-year Bowdoin Japanese language student entered and won first place in the beginner essay division.
The award ceremony was held on April 7, 2018 at the Brookline Public Library, Coolidge Corner Branch and participants came from high schools, colleges, and universities all over New England.
