Making a Living and Making a Life: The Liberal Arts in Commerce and Citizenship,” the second of the two panels composing the Inaugural Symposium “The Power of the Liberal Arts,” focused on work and commerce. The panelists, all Bowdoin alumni, were Kenneth I. Chenault ’73, H’96, CEO and chairman, American Express; Ruthie Davis ’84, president and designer of Ruthie Davis; Shelley Hearne ’83, visiting professor, The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; and former US Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell ’54, H’83. Andy Serwer ’81, journalist and editor-in-chief of Yahoo Finance, moderated the panel.
