March 18, 2020 — COVID-19 Campus Update
With those students who are departing having left or about to leave campus later today, with many faculty and staff already working remotely, and to continue to follow the evolving best practices for preventing the spread of COVID-19, the College will limit employees on campus to essential personnel only, effective at 5:00 p.m. today.
The College will remain open, as we do our best under these extraordinary circumstances to protect our community while also delivering education to our students.
As you likely already know, Maine CDC is now reporting thirty confirmed cases of COVID-19 and thirteen presumptive positive cases in Maine, up from twenty-three and nine cases respectively yesterday. Of the confirmed cases, at least twelve are in Cumberland County, and these numbers are expected to increase daily. So, even though we currently know of no confirmed or presumptive cases of COVID-19 on campus or in Brunswick, it is clear that it is only a matter of time before we have our first case here (if we don’t already). Rather than wait for confirmation, we thought it best to further reduce the number of people on campus as soon as we can.
Please refer to the staff FAQ for time sheet instructions for hourly staff. Tama Spoerri and human resources are available to respond to any questions. Until further notice, dining services will offer take-out service only at Moulton Union. All other dining service locations are now closed, including Magee’s Grill, the Smith Union Café, and the Smith Union C-Store.
