Celebrating Independence! Fifty Years of Spindleworks, 1976–2026

Established fifty years ago, Spindleworks Art Center, based in Brunswick, Maine, is a nationally recognized progressive art studio that has become a vibrant part of the local community. This exhibition celebrates the vision of the artists whose work in a broad range of creative practices, from painting and sculpture to poetry and dance to weaving and new media art, provides a source of enduring inspiration and revelation.

This digital exhibition accompanies Celebrating Independence! Fifty Years of Spindleworks, 1976–2026, on view at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick, Maine from May 20 through August 16, 2026.

This exhibition is curated by Mya Benally ’26 and Anne Collins Goodyear. We thank the artists of Spindleworks and their mentors for their encouragement and assistance.
