Celebrating Independence! Fifty Years of Spindleworks, 1976–2026

Section 2: Materiality, Craft, and Process

A centerpiece of the historical ethos of Spindleworks, weaving continues to engage the creative energies of many of the artists who are active at Spindleworks. Dispersed throughout the exhibition are works by Earle Black, Loralei McGinn, Micah Webbert, and Lloyd Whitcomb—each guided by textile maps—that serve, respectively, as a shawl, a sampler, and wall hangings. Through their innovative work with color and texture, these artists examine the transformative power of materials, creating layered works that express personal and collective narratives.
