Winter Break Information

Please be advised that most College operations will be closed from December 23, 2024, through January 5, 2025

Dining

All operations will be closed from December 23 through January 1.

Please refer to the “Winter Break Operating Hours” on the Dining website for meal times and locations for the remainder of the break.

Bowdoin Store

The Bowdoin Store will be closed from December 22 through January 5.

Heating

In an effort to conserve energy, heating controls in buildings will be set back to an average of 60 degrees for a number of unoccupied buildings across campus for the duration of the break (12/23/24-1/5/25). Certain spaces and buildings that are temperature sensitive or that will be occupied over the break such as laboratories, Walker Art Building, and the John and Lile Gibbons Center for Artic Studies will not be modified during this time.

If you are on campus over the closure period, please dress accordingly as heating systems will not be adjusted on an individual basis. For occupant-controlled thermostats in academic and administrative buildings, please do not set the temperature below 55 degrees. On January 5, Facilities Management will begin the process of turning the heat back up to be ready for normal operation on January 6.

Additional things you can do to save energy: shut down your computer, turn off lights, unplug all appliances, and close any open windows. While we strongly discourage the use of space heaters, please make sure you unplug any heater prior to closure.

Please call Security at 207-725-3314 with any heating issues that require immediate attention.

Human Resources

Please refer to Payroll for important information about support staff and student timesheet entries and approvals as well as administrative staff exception time reported in late December. We understand that some offices will need to maintain some staff on holidays and special days off.  Student Employees are not permitted to work while the College is closed, unless they have received an exception from SEO. Additionally, remote work, outside of Maine, is not permitted for student employees.
