Rental Housing

A limited selection of College-owned houses and apartments located on the perimeter of the campus is available for rent to newly hired faculty and staff. The properties include a combination of unfurnished houses (2 - 4 bedrooms), unfurnished two-bedroom duplexes, and furnished one-bedroom apartments.

The allocation of College rental housing is based on the following considerations:

  • New incoming appointments relocating to the Brunswick area;
  • Priority assigned to tenured and tenure-track faculty appointments; and
  • Requests are accepted on a "first-come, first-served" basis once a signed employment contract has been received.

A small number of units normally become available to rent in August for the upcoming academic year. The maximum term of a lease is one year and all leases terminate on June 30. A lease can be renewed no more than twice (for a total of three years of occupancy). Residents may not sublet College rental housing.

Monthly rental rates are comparable with the local housing market. The costs of heating, water, and sewer are included in the rent. Tenants are responsible for electricity, cable, and telephone. Proof of renter's insurance is required. A security deposit (equal to one month's rent) is due upon lease signing. Monthly rent payments are made through payroll deduction prior to the month for which the rent is due.

Please refer to the College's Rental Housing Policy and Guidelines for more detailed information.

College rental housing is managed by Bowdoin's Rental Housing Coordinator, Tuyet Matthews. For more information, please contact the Rental Housing Coordinator at (207) 798-4208, rentalhousing@bowdoin.edu, or Treasurer's Office, 5600 College Station, Brunswick, ME 04011
