Bowdoin Chamber Choir Hits a High Note, With Help From Friends (Dec. 3-4, 2004)
The Bowdoin College Music Department offers a wide variety of musical opportunities. Students can major and minor, take lessons, sing in Chorus or Chamber Choir, play in Concert Band, Orchestra, Chamber Ensembles, Jazz ensembles, the Middle Eastern Ensemble, or the Mbira Ensemble. Students can choose to get credit for almost all lessons and ensembles. Department ensembles all perform at least once a semester, and the Chorus and Chamber Choir each tour about every other year.
Our courses, most available to all students regardless of major, range from music theory and composition, to surveys of jazz history, the musics of Europe and North America, Central and Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and South and East Asia, to seminars on such subjects as Music and Identity or the Mozart operas.
The department also sponsors a lively series of concerts by guest artists.
Students interested in particular repertories: classical music, jazz, or world music, will find that each area offers both academic and performance opportunities.
