This afternoon we learned the terribly sad news that Finnegan Woodruff ’21 drowned today while kayaking in Washington state. This tragic accident took place on the White Salmon River in White Salmon, Washington, as Finn was doing something he loved.

It is with the greatest sadness that I write to tell you of the tragic death of Theo Danzig ’22, of New York City, in his off-campus residence here in Brunswick. The cause of death is currently under investigation by the Brunswick Police Department and the authorities in Cumberland County.

Patricia Gipson (1971–2021)

I write with the very sad news that our colleague Patricia Gipson, a longtime member of the dining service staff, suffered a heart cardiac arrest on Friday, August 6, and died while in hospice care on Sunday, August 15. She was fifty years old. Trish, as she was known to friends and coworkers, had been with the College for more than thirty years.

I write with the sad news that Gerald Walter Blakeley Jr., a member of the Class of 1943 and overseer of the College emeritus, died in Osterville, Massachusetts, on July 2 at the age of 100.

Judy Montgomery (1952–2021)

As we end a very difficult year, I am very sorry to write to you with the heartbreaking news that our former colleague and friend Judy Montgomery and her husband, Paul D’Alessandro, were killed yesterday afternoon in a two-car automobile accident in Lewiston.

Clifton Cooper Olds (1935–2021)

It is my sad duty to inform the campus community of the death of Edith Cleaves Barry Professor of the History and Criticism of Art Emeritus Clifton C. Olds. Clif died on Thursday, April 8, 2021, in Massachusetts. He was eighty-five years old.

I am sorry to report that Betty M. Massé, assistant to the treasurer of the College emerita, passed away in Topsham on Saturday, January 30, 2021, from complications related to COVID-19. She was ninety-one years old.
