Student Curators Use Digital Know-How to Highlight Prestigious Medal Collection

Three student curators launched their first exhibition over the summer, highlighting the Bowdoin College Museum of Art's prestigious Molinari medal collection.

The collection comprises almost 1500 items spanning five centuries of history. The students, Amber Orosco ’19, Stephen Pastoriza ’19, and Benjamin Wu ’18, collaborated with staff at the museum and in the College’s academic computing division to develop an innovative, web-based, interface to help museum patrons get the most out of the show, which runs until January 2019.

Bowdoin College writer and multimedia producer Tom Porter recently caught up with the curators to talk about the challenges of putting on an art show—especially one displaying artifacts that weren’t originally designed to be shown off in a museum.
