A Bowdoin graduate who circumnavigated New England by kayak over thirty-two years is featured in an eleven-minute documentary film produced by the outdoor retailer L.L.Bean, called One Week at a Time. Michael Perry '74, along with three friends, paddled along the Maine coast into Atlantic Canada, down into the St. Lawrence River, ending up in New York City in October 2017.
The 3200-mile journey was done in stages, usually one week every year, said Perry, and began in the mid-1980s. On completion of the adventure, Perry, a former L.L.Bean employee, said he felt "extremely lucky" to share this amazing journey with some of the "finest human beings on the planet."
