Professor Greene delivered a fascinating talk titled “Gay Neighborhoods and Queer Placemaking in American Cities”, which concentrated on his research around iconic gay neighborhoods in Washington, DC and Chicago. The crowd of nearly 70 alumni, current students, and parents, participated in a lively Q&A session followed by remarks by Kate Stern, Associate Dean of Students for Diversity & Inclusion and Co-Director of the Sexuality, Women, and Gender Center. Stern closed the program by challenging everyone in the room to continue their own conversations on the issues raised during the talk, including the factors they had considered when selecting what neighborhood to live in.
Guests munched on empanadas, quesadillas, and hand-hacked guacamole from the popular Mexican restaurant, Papagayo, and enjoyed the lovely space at EdTech Company, LearnLaunch.
It was a wonderful evening for all who attended and the Bowdoin LGBTIQA Network hopes to offer a similar program with Professor Greene in other cities down the road.
