On April 5, 2018, Dr. Kevin Kumashiro will lecture at Bowdoin: What is happening right now in public education and in today’s so-called “reforms”? This lecture offers five lenses for reframing the public debate and building broader social movements for democracy and social justice in education. Dr. Kumashiro is an acclaimed expert in educational policy, reform, equity, and justice; he founded the Center for Anti-Oppressive Education in 2002, and is the former Dean of the School of Education at the University of San Francisco. He has published on topics ranging from teaching in a democratic society to the challenges of authentically bringing social justice into the classroom.
