A Bowdoin graduate has been featured on a radio show talking about her struggle to overcome a rare blood cancer. Annie McNamara '12 was a guest on the 16th annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon, a two-day event featuring interviews with both cancer survivors and sports celebrities.
McNamara, 27, described how she was diagnosed in 2015 after feeling unwell for a while. Tests revealed that she had myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a condition which typically affects much older patients. She had three rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant from her sister. MacNamara, whose family owns the Porland Sea Dogs baseball team, appeared on the show with her Doctor, Robert Soiffer, from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, who she visits every six to eight weeks.
