The Best Meatball at Bowdoin

Thorne Dining Hall might have been, briefly, the meatball center of the world Thursday evening, when the Polar Chef Competition took place. This year, the annual cooking competition featured three student teams (all dining hall employees) vying to make the tastiest meatball.

All diners were encouraged to sample the entries and vote. They ultimately selected the Moulton Union Dining Hall team's lamb meatball with tzatziki sauce as the winner.

The Thorne Hall team of Sereyrath Ly ’17, Malin Ieng ’17, and Morgane Ponen ’17 made an Asian pork meatball with two sauces: chipotle tomato sauce and fermented soybean sriracha sauce. The Smith Union team of Drew Anderson ’17 and Miranda Princi ’17 came up with a "Kickin’ Chicken Ball" with green chili sauce.

Despite there being a winner, all the meatballs were very popular, according to Michele Gaillard, Bowdoin Dining's associate director of operations. She said every competitor received a gift certificate to Hannaford grocery store.

The winning team below: Jack Mitchell ’17, Emily Jaques ’17, and Havana Caso-Dosembet ’20.
