On this World Alzheimer’s Day, observed September 21 each year, comes news that John S. Marr Sr. ’55 and his family — which includes son William Marr ’85, daughter Abigail Psyhogeos ’87, and grandchildren Kathryn Savasuk ’11, Matt Marr ’13 and Meghan Marr ’14 — have donated $2 million to establish the Josephine and John Marr Alzheimer’s Research Fund at Brigham and Women’s Hospital to further research aimed at Alzheimer’s disease prevention. Named for John and Josephine, his wife of 59 years, the fund is inspired by Josephine’s courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease and the hope that new research will put an end to this disease for future generations.

Building on their gift, the Marr family established a Maine Marathon fundraising team with a goal of raising an additional $75,000. On Sunday, October 4, more than 70 Marr family members and friends will participate in the Maine Marathon by either running a half marathon or marathon relay in support of the Josephine and John Marr Alzheimer’s Research Fund. More information here.
