Assistant Professor of Digital and Computational Studies and Computer Science Mohammad Irfan was on MPBN’s Maine Calling program earlier this week talking about what he knows best: coding.

Irfan joined Rusty Foster and Paul Ford to discuss coding and why careers inside (and outside) computer science require the skill.

The three experts covered a wide range of topics, from women in computer science, to coding’s relevance to all professions and all ages.

Irfan, who taught Social and Economic Networks last Spring in Bowdoin’s Digital and Computational Studies program, highlighted how the program fits the needs of the coming generation.

“The goal of this [DCS] initiative is to incorporate computational skills into the academic experience of any student, no matter what her major is. Maybe you’ll be doing visual arts? Well, you need to have that computational skill,” Irfan said.
