Important Info for Faculty and Staff about Returning to Campus Next Week—January 7, 2021

I hope everyone has had a restful and enjoyable holiday break. With the reopening of campus offices on Monday, January 10, I am writing to pass along a few important updates. A comprehensive message will go out to the campus community on Monday detailing our plans for the spring semester.

Antigen Tests

Please take one of your at-home BinaxNow antigen tests no more than twelve (12) hours before your return to campus. For most employees, this means taking the test no earlier than 8:30 p.m. on Sunday (January 9) or before you leave home for campus Monday morning, January 10 (employees with different start times at the College should plan accordingly).
Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 using an at-home antigen test must remain at home and should contact their primary care physician and Mary Cote in human resources ( or 725-3033).

PCR Tests

The College will resume PCR testing in Farley Field House this coming Monday, January 10. Due to the possibility of higher positivity rates during this Omicron surge, the College is delaying the start of the previously announced pooled testing program for now and will continue instead with the individual PCR testing program that we have used since the start of the pandemic (in a higher positivity rate environment, pooled testing is more inconvenient for many of the individuals being tested and more burdensome to manage for the College).

Please remember that every member of the faculty and staff is required to take a PCR test once a week. Testing days for next week will be Monday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Due to the return of students, PCR testing the following week will be Wednesday, January 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Saturday, January 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Anyone scheduled to work on campus early next week should make time to take their test on Monday.


Beginning this semester, only surgical, KN95 masks, or equivalent (N95, KF-94) are acceptable, cloth masks are no longer an approved mask for use at the College. Masks will continue to be required at all times in indoor settings except when eating or in private offices. Masks must also be worn inside college vehicles carrying more than one person.  

Upload Booster Information to Workday

Instructions are available here for how to enter your vaccination booster information in Workday using your computer or smart phone. You’ll also find instructions when you log in to Workday. 

As a reminder, effective January 21, 2022, Bowdoin is requiring that all students, faculty, and staff receive a COVID-19 booster shot within thirty (30) days of becoming eligible. Those who received Pfizer or Moderna shots for their primary series of vaccinations are now eligible for their booster five months after receiving their second dose. For all but a very small number of our faculty and staff, this means receiving a booster and uploading the record to Workday on or prior to Friday, January 21.
