Student Summer Housing

Registration for Summer Housing '18 is now open. 

Before completing the lease, please read this letter regarding Summer Housing and then download the Summer Housing lease agreement. Please complete your lease agreement in blue or black ink (NO PENCIL) and then return your completed lease agreement to the Office of Events and Summer Programs 1st Floor, Coles Tower (across from OneCard). Summer housing is available to Bowdoin students who are employed by the College or who have received a research fellowship through the College.  Student Employees must be working a minimum of 20 hours per week on campus during the summer - this minimum may be met by working more than one job on campus.  Since staying on campus for the summer is a privilege, any student wishing to live in campus summer housing must also be in good social standing.  All students will need to accurately complete and read the terms of the lease, including the fine print, to ensure that they can meet all the requirements of summer housing. A supervisor's signature will also be required on the lease to confirm employment or research fellowship.

The summer housing rental rate is $65.00 per week.  Student employees will be charged their summer rent through bi-weekly payroll deductions.  In most cases, students receiving fellowships receive a housing allowance paid by the Department that is offering the fellowship.


While living in campus housing, students are expected to comply with all of the rules and regulations contained in the Apartment Lease Agreement and are bound to observe Bowdoin's Social Code as a guide to residential life as they would during the academic year.

Living Arrangements

Examples of buildings that have been used for housing in the past include Smith House, Harpswell Apartments, and Brunswick Apartments. (These housing options are subject to change.) Apartment and room assignments will be confirmed after Fall assignments have been processed. Because of this short timeframe, you will be notified of your summer assignment in mid-May. On the Apartment Lease Agreement, students may indicate their first and second choices for housing locations. Students may also specify the names of Bowdoin students - employees and/or research fellowship recipients - with whom they would like to share a space for the summer.  Our staff will do its best to accommodate students' preferences; however, since housing is limited, all requests cannot be guaranteed. If a student needs housing between the College’s closing of housing and the start of summer housing, they must apply for transitional housing using the Office of Residential Life’s website.
