‘Private Practice’ Star Paul Adelstein ’91 on His Musical Journey

Story posted February 24, 2012

It seems only fitting that the hit ABC show, Grey’s Anatomy, whose character Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd is a Bowdoin grad, would spin off a series starring an actual alum. Paul Adelstein ‘91 plays pediatrician Cooper Freedman on Private Practice, which also stars Amy Brenneman, Tim Daly and Taye Diggs.

In a recent article, the Chicago native talks about juggling the demands of the show, a nearly two-year-old daughter and a newly recorded album, All the Details, with his band Doris.

“It’s definitely a singer/songwriter rock record,” says Adelstein in the piece. “Somebody said it’s like Paul Simon, Elton John and Randy Newman all bumped into each other in temple.”

In talking about his music, Adelstein mentions minoring in music at the College (he was an English major).

Now, if we can just get him to wear some Bowdoin gear on camera…

Private Practice airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
