Story posted July 01, 2011

Bowdoin College has given the 2011 Abraxas Award  to the Brearley School in New York, N.Y. The Abraxas Award is given each year to the secondary school sending two or more graduates to Bowdoin whose representatives maintain the highest standing during their first year at the College.

The two students in the Class of 2014 from this school are Haley Gewandter and Yimin Peng. Together, they earned a combined GPA of 3.942 during the 2010-2011 academic year, the highest for a secondary school sending two or more students to Bowdoin.

The Abraxas Award was established in 1915 by the Abraxas Society, a former Bowdoin junior class scholarly society that was active from 1893 to about 1924.
