When you consider Bowdoin is on the receiving end of more than 630 deliveries a month from OfficeMax alone, making a few thoughtful changes can result in a signification reduction in the College’s carbon footprint.
In mid-December, the College began using reusable shipping containers for OfficeMax deliveries. Each container is bar-coded so that its use — and the number of cardboard boxes spared — can be tracked.
The College estimates the practice will eliminate the use of approximately 125 boxes per week — or 6,500 boxes per year.
This initiative comes on the heels of a new delivery schedule.
In September, the College implemented Green Mondays and Wednesdays with OfficeMax, whereby there are no deliveries on these days — a further reduction to the College’s impact on the environment.
Previously, OfficeMax made deliveries to campus every day.
The College also negotiated lower prices with OfficeMax for 100% recycled paper.
The new lower pricing makes the use of 100% recycled paper affordable for every department.
