Jonathon Jackson's book The Making of Slap Shot examines the genesis of the 1977 movie of the same name starring Paul Newman.

As The Denver Post reports, the character Ned Braden, the former Princeton star-turned-Charlestown Chiefs player, was inspired by Ned Dowd ’72.

Dowd played for Bowdoin before joining the North American Hockey League's Johnstown Jets.
