Elliott Schwartz, Bowdoin’s Robert K. Beckwith Professor Music Emeritus, will return to Maine this winter for the premiere performance of his newly composed orchestra piece by the Portland Symphony Orchestra.

The work is titled “Diamond Jubilee” and will be directed by PSO music director Robert Moody.

The show is scheduled to debut January 25, 2011.

Schwartz has been living in England since September on a visiting fellowship at Cambridge.

He plans to return in early December to begin preparations for the January premiere of his orchestral composition.
