Susan D. Jacobson, a member of the Class of 1971 and the College's first female graduate, has died following a battle with type 1 diabetes.
Jacobson graduated magna cum laude, and was the first woman to deliver a Bowdoin College Commencement address, before going on to earn a master's degree in library science from Simmons College.
She later worked at Yale University and subsequently became Acquisition Librarian at Youngstown State University. Jacobson was 61.
