Common Good, Alumni Council Awards to be Presented Reunion Weekend

Three awards honoring outstanding service and devotion to the College are to presented Saturday, June 5, 2010, during Reunion Convocation. More about Reunion 2010 here.
The Common Good Award, Alumni Service Award, and Alumni Award for Faculty and Staff recognize members of the Bowdoin community for their exemplary achievement and dedication.
Common Good Award Ambassador Elkanah Odembo '80 has dedicated his career to improving the life of others through his work bringing development to the rural and underprivileged in society.
For his tireless efforts, Odembo has been selected to receive the 2010 Common Good Award.

Alumni Service Award For his 40 years of service to the College and its Museum of Art, David P. Becker, a member of the Class of 1970 as well as an art curator, scholar and collector, philanthropist, champion of social and economic justice, trustee of the College emeritus, and Pamela and Peter Voss Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, has been named the recipient of the 2010 Alumni Service Award, the highest honor given by the Bowdoin Alumni Council.

Alumni Award for Faculty and Staff For her enthusiastic and ongoing dedication, June Adler Vail — scholar, performer, choreographer and professor of dance — has been chosen to receive the 2010 Alumni Award for Faculty and Staff, presented each year for service and devotion to Bowdoin, recognizing that the College in a larger sense includes both students and alumni.
Vail taught the first classes in dance ever offered at the College in 1971, and over the years single-handedly established dance as a vital component of the curriculum.
