Bowdoin Alums Ring Both Bells
Story posted May 05, 2010
It was earlier reported that three Bowdoin grads would be ringing the NASDAQ opening bell on Monday, April 26.
Little did we know that at the same time, on the same day, and for a similar reason, another Bowdoin alumnus and trustee, Alvin Hall '74, would be helping to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
The occasion was to announce Financial Literacy Week and the NYSE's Money Sense Web site designed to help average Americans gain a greater understanding of important financial information.
Here's a look at the opening bell ceremony (thatís Hall fourth from the left, wearing a bow tie).
The previously reported group comprises Jon Chapman '96, Tom Davidson '94 and Ray Martinez '96, founders of EverFi, a provider of Web-based software that teaches young adults to manage their money.
The question for Bowdoin history buffs: Is this the first time that Bowdoin alumni simultaneously participated in the ringing of the opening bells at both major U.S. stock exchanges?
