Lauren McGrath '07 Blog, Design Skills Showcased in Traditional Home
Story posted February 04, 2010
Lauren McGrath's first apartment after college has a lot of flair, as well it should as the abode of a fashion writer with style in her genes.
When faced with decorating her first place, McGrath, a member of the Class of 2007, did what came naturally: she asked her mother.
Mom is Suzanne Grua McGrath, who earned five Emmys over her decade-long career at Martha Stewart Living Television.
The McGrath women are now a mother-daughter design team with a blog and a spread in the March 2010 issue of Traditional Home magazine.
An excerpt from the article, "First Best Nest:"
"We both knew that whenever I got my first apartment, we would decorate it together," explains Lauren. "We actually started collecting things for it while I was still in college."
After graduating from Bowdoin College with a degree in art history, Lauren moved back home to Rye, New York, for a year. When she landed a job with Teen Vogue, she found her own place in a Brooklyn Heights brownstone. "I found this tiny apartment and instantly fell in love with its amazing deck, which is almost bigger than the apartment itself," she laughs.
The design duo's decorating philosophy is delivered in installments in their blog, goodbonesgreatpieces.com.
