Commute Another Way Week Underway
Story posted May 12, 2009
If I join a carpool, will I be committing my precious free time commuting with insufferable, dull or irritating people?
It's a legitimate question — one that almost kept Anne Schaff from participating in the statewide Commute Another Way Week campaign going on right now. Schaff, who works in the Office of Stewardship Programs, says she hesitated signing up because she wondered if her carpool would be unpleasant or even unreliable.
"I had to grow up about it, relinquish the privilege of avoiding potential unpleasantness, and instead get over myself and welcome in new friends," she says. "It's been tremendously fun. We have had an incredible, hilarious time. I think I'm the most insufferable one, probably."
Schaff adds that the greatest benefits are the new friends and a greater appreciation for the wide web of Bowdoin's staff and faculty.
