John Holt, William R. Kenan, Jr., Professor of the Humanities in Religion and Asian Studies, is quoted in the March 10, 2008, international edition of Newsweek magazine.

Holt is identified as a religion professor at Bowdoin College in the article, "Armies of the Enlightened," which explores how Buddhism is growing throughout Asia and playing an increasingly political role.

Holt is the author of seven books, including The Buddhist Visnu: Religious Transformation, Politics, and Culture (Columbia University Press, 2004).
His book Buddha in the Crown (Oxford University Press, 1991) earned him an American Academic Book Award for Excellence.
Holt founded the Inter-collegiate Sri Lanka Education (ISLE) Program for a consortium of private, liberal-arts colleges.
